Individual Therapy

“Loving ourselves through the process of
owning our story is the bravest thing we’ll every do.”

Individual Therapy

My approach to individual therapy is to create a safe place where a person can come to tell their story and be heard. We will work collaboratively to help you identify your goals for therapy and check in a long the way to make sure we are on the right path.

While my approach is tailored to meet the needs of each individual, different approaches to therapy influence my work. For instance I believe in a mind / body connection and use mindfulness practices to help clients get present to feelings or tensions they are experiencing in the present moment. The goal is to take a moment and gather yourself, become fully present in your body in order to optimize decision making and manage how you are handling your day. In addition to mindfulness techniques, I also utilize cognitive behavioral interventions, psycho-education, relational therapy in my work.

As a trained therapist in healing childhood trauma using the PIT model developed by Pia Mellody, I work with people to identify and heal the causes of adult dysfunction. You may be in therapy to learn how to have healthier relationships, better self-esteem and manage depression and anxiety - relational trauma from childhood can show up in these types of problems. Pia defines relational trauma as any interaction between a child and caregiver that was less than nurturing. Lets face it no one had a perfect childhood. Our parents did the best they could and in most cases that was good enough. However, the dynamics of your childhood home can have a lasting impact on your life. We will get at the root causes of your issues so that you are aware of where you get into trouble, and work to create a better relationship with yourself in five core areas. Pia defines these areas as:
  • Loving the Self
  • Protecting the Self
  • Creating and knowing the Self
  • Taking care of the Self, and
  • Moderating and containing the Self
