Individual Therapy and Trauma Work
My approach to individual therapy is to create a safe place where a person can come to tell their story and be heard. We will work collaboratively to help you identify your goals for therapy and check in a long the way to make sure we are on the right path.
While I tailor my approach to meet the needs of each individual, I have been influenced by different approaches to therapy work. For instance I believe in a mind / body connection and use mindfulness practices to help clients identify their feelings or tensions they are experiencing and we use somatic approached to clear them. With all the distractions of modern life, we have adopted automatic, unhealthy ways to cope with difficult life stressors and PTSD. In addition to mindfulness, I use cognitive behavioral interventions, trauma informed practices, attachment based approaches when problems are based in childhood.
You may be in therapy to learn how to have healthier relationships, or better manage self-esteem, depression or anxiety. We will work on understanding the origin of adult dysfunction and apply trauma informed interventions. Our parents did the best they could, and in most cases that was good enough. However, in many cases the dynamics of your childhood home can have a lasting impact on your life.
