About Me

Sarah Doebler, LICSW, EdM, MSW, CSAT
Individuals & Couples Therapist

Over the years I’ve spent my time sitting in circles, be it on meditation pillows, in workshops, or around the kitchen table. I’ve studied how to live with an open heart and find compassion in myself, and I’ve been on my own path of learning and growth. Before I became a social worker, I was a schoolteacher and a stay at home mom. What I enjoy most about being a therapist is the collaborative nature of the work and witnessing the progress people make toward their goals and healing. For over ten years I have worked extensively with individuals, couples and groups.

In 2005, I discovered the work of couple’s therapist, Terry Real, who founded the Institute of Relational Living. I went through his couples training program. Terry’s work is about teaching relationship practices, such as respectful communication through the use of proper boundaries, consciousness about how you come across, giving and receiving love, and appreciating your partner for what they bring to the relationship. Shortly after this, I began working with Pia Mellody because I found that many couples that I worked with had dysfunctional patterns due to legacies of childhood trauma. I trained with Pia for a few years and began working with clients on co-dependency, love addiction and love avoidance, empowerment and cultivating the Functional Adult. In 2010 I began running workshops on healing childhood trauma using a workshop model developed by Pia Mellody called “Survivors.”

I became a CSAT in order to work with sex addicts and their partners and was trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trauma therapy.
